Women who choose to have breast reduction surgery in India do so to get relief from physical discomfort and to have a freedom to be able to perform a wider range of activities. The end result is to achieve an aesthetically shaped breast. There will be resultant scars which should fade to some extent after a few months.
The preoperative markings are done with the patient in sitting position. The markings will denote the new position of the nipple and the areas of skin and breast tissue that needs removal. Operation is done under general anaesthesia and may take three to four hours.
The principle of the procedure is to rearrange and refashion the patients own breast tissue and removal of the extra skin and breast tissues. The patient’s own breast tissue is used as an internal Bra and re suspended in order to get a more firmer and shapely breasts.
Loss of nipple sensation and failure to breast feed may occur in a few cases.
The medial pedicle vertical reduction mamoplasty has now almost replaced the inferior pedicle technique. With this technique there is a significant reduction in the scar as there is only a vertical scar from the nipple areola complex downwards. The the technique was originally described by Dr.Elizabeth Hall Findlay. The advantage of this procedure done at our facility in India is its simplicity, minimisation of scarring, adequate control of lateral pole fullness and creation of upper pole fullness, the procedure is always combined with liposuction so as to eradicate the axillary and lateral pole fullness and creation of a new inframammary fold. The success of this procedure is determined with accurate pre operative marking of the breast tissue and careful excision. It avoids the snoopy shapes that is often encountered with the inferior pedicle technique. In the illustrated case below 1000 grams of breast tissue was removed from the right breast and 1,250 grams of breast tissue was removed from the left breast.
The breasts tend to go saggy and out of shape following pregnancy. The breasts start drooping due to loss of volume and skin elasticity. Because of this the breasts start drooping.this is called as ptosis of the breast.
Mild degrees of ptosis and sag can be corrected with implants and removal of skin above the areola. With this procedure there will be minimal scars.
Moderate and severe degree of ptosis and sagging will need relocation and refashioning of breast tissue and removal of excess skin. This will need a more extensive procedure.
